Marble Falls cross country posts new personal bests at Westlake Chaparral Invite
The Marble Falls High School cross country teams competed at the Austin Westlake Chaparral Invitational Aug. 23.
“I think we were the only Class 4A school there,” head coach Brenda Gonzalez said. “They had 250-plus runners.”
Senior Tyler Hamblin paced the Mustangs by finishing the course in 16 minutes and 3.30 seconds for ninth in the boys varsity standings. As he was making his way to the starting line, Hamblin realized he wasn’t wearing a race bib and hustled back to get it.
He arrived in time for the start of the race and then made his way to a top 10 finish.
“He did well,” Gonzalez said. “I was really proud of that.”
Sophomore Owen Martin’s goal was to finish near the 18-minute mark. He was done in 17:44.70.
“I was proud of the way he ran and he had a (new personal record) by 45 seconds,” the coach said.
Other runners include Graham Goggans, Logan Hargraves, Matthew Ozuna and Brazos White.
“They did well,” Gonzalez said. “I like what I saw running against Class 5A and 6A runners, and they held their own.”
The Lady Mustangs competed in the junior varsity division where Reese Massey was the division champion in 12:33.60.
“Reese set a new (personal record) by 10 seconds and won the JV division by a minute,” Gonzalez said.
Senior Chloe Ellis was the next Lady Mustang to finish the race in 14:33.30 for 25th, and freshman Savannah Hamblin was done in 15:36.70 for 83rd. She set a new personal best by 45 seconds. Hadalye Hernandez completed her race in 17 minutes,
“Chloe Ellis coming back was a good thing. She had a first good race,” the coach said. “I’m liking the progress and the team effort and the way they’re supporting one another.”
The teams will compete at the ProFit Invitational Aug. 30 in Temple. Gonzalez said each runner will compete in the varsity races.
